The Welsh resident doctors committee is re-entering negotiations with Welsh Government on an updated contract for resident doctors. We all know that the current contract is out of date and needs reform. It no longer works for resident doctors in Wales: it doesn’t provide the protections needed, nor the modern working arrangements and training guarantees residents deserve.
However, before we begin, we need to hear from you.
Over recent weeks, we've been visiting hospital sites and GP training sessions across Wales to get your input on several key areas, including elements of the rejected 2022 contract proposal which were unacceptable, what you want from a new contract and how we solve the outstanding issues.
To help ensure as many of you as possible have the opportunity to share your experiences and expectations, we are also hosting an online workshop on Wednesday 11 December, 18:30 - 19:30.
During the session we will;
- revisit the main points of the 2022 contract proposal that you liked at the time and confirm if these remain priorities for the upcoming negotiations,
- discuss the aspects of the previous proposal that you didn’t like. We want to hear from you about how you want these areas to work in your future contract,
- listen to any new priorities or concerns that you believe should be addressed in the upcoming negotiations.
Hearing from you is vital to ensuring that contract talks are productive and reflective of your views. This will be your chance to shape the future resident doctor contract in Wales.
