Gender Equality Group Event - Women Representing

Wednesday Nov 11

5pm-7.15pm

Location: 14 Queen St, Edinburgh & online

New Scottish Council chair and outgoing chair of BMA Scotland's Gender Equality Group (GEG), Dr Nóra Murray-Cavanagh, is delighted to announce the opening of the Dr Mary Esslemont room in recognition and honour of the work and memory of our first female chair of Scottish Council.

In celebration of our female chairs of Scottish Council we will be hosting an evening of discussion with former Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament Alison Johnstone, BBC Scotland's health and social care correspondent Lisa Summers and Scottish Council chair Dr Nóra Murray-Cavanagh.

The evening which is open to all, members and non-members, has a particular focus for women medical students and doctors. It is an opportunity to hear from women who have chosen careers and taken opportunities that require them to have a public life. This will be an informal discussion about what more needs to be done to encourage more women to take up opportunities to represent and what barriers still need to be knocked down.

Come along to this informal evening to celebrate the women who have gone before us, and explore what needs to change to encourage more women into representative and leadership roles.

Starts at 5pm with networking (online and in person).

Dr Mary Esslemont room opening 5.30pm with informal discussion starting at 6pm.
